Thank You IW Community

As we conclude the school year, I wanted to end with a thank you to everyone who played a role in our students' lives. There is no doubt this was one of the most challenging years on record. Opinions have differed, and at times strongly so. We've had to readjust our approach frequently, and that's always tough. We've been understaffed and overwhelmed, and I am sure many of you have felt underappreciated for your efforts.

But as the old saying goes, it's not what you're going through, it's what you're going to, and we're on our way to a better place despite the adversity, and perhaps in some ways better for it. We persevered and learned from our mistakes and each other. And just like the runner who crosses the line at the end of a marathon, there is a level of pride that we can take in the fact that we made it, no matter how long or difficult the journey.

To our Board of Trustees, thank you for your leadership through a complex journey. There is no more difficult volunteer job I can think of, and I am grateful for the time away from your families you give us to provide careful stewardship for our district.

To our community, thank you for supporting our students. Your continued encouragement for our activities and academics has been amazing. Thank you for the outstanding media coverage and the vast array of scholarships available to our graduating students.

To our parents and guardians, thank you for supporting our students through all of the added challenges that resulted from the last few years. Getting a child through high school is hard enough without adding a pandemic to the equation. Thank you for your passion as advocates for your students and your patience with us as we navigated a continuous landscape of unknowns throughout the year.

To our staff, you have endured illness, exhaustion, and the myriad of issues that accompanied our transition back to face-to-face instruction. No matter how many times we say thank you I know it's not enough to truly square the ledger, but once again thank you for your tremendous efforts through an unprecedented time.

And lastly, to our students. I continue to remain in awe of your resiliency and your grit. The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of us, but those who win battles we know nothing about. No adult can truly understand what it means to have been a high school student the last few years or the battles you have fought to make it to the end of this year. I am proud to serve you and we are proud that you are Chargers.

Have a great summer everyone.
