Yesterday evening, Illini West received notification from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) that our district was placed on probation because the district is not in compliance with the current mask mandate.
The letter indicates that ISBE will reach out to our district to schedule a conference to discuss compliance issues with representatives of the State Board. Within 60 days of that meeting, Illini West is required to submit a corrective plan to the Regional Superintendent of Schools and State Superintendent.
The letter indicates ISBE will respond to the corrective plan within 15 days after receipt. They further state "If the plan is not approvable, I will so notify you. If no plan is submitted, or if no approvable plan is received within 60 days after our conference, the State Board of Education may act to change the status of the district, or of the affected school or schools, to "Nonrecognized."
The loss of recognition status for a school brings with it several consequences, including a potential loss of funding, the ability of the district to issue diplomas that are recognized, and the ability to compete in IHSA activities.
I will provide further updates as new information becomes available to me.
